Intended as a catalyst for Chicago's larger riverfront initiative, the renovation and expansion of Hyatt Regency's lower level between Michigan Ave. and Columbus will also improve the hotel's energy, water, and waste management systems while striving for LEED Platinum certification. The Wacker Drive Façade is conceived as a layered expression of pedestrian circulation, uses green technology, and is an enclosure for the Hyatt Expansion. The façade investigated a "living wall" system. The project also introduced a year round green market to the city along with exhibition space and conference rooms below Lower Wacker Drive.
